Classic Chicken Fried Steak with Creamy Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

Boil Potatoes: In a large pot, cover the potatoes with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Mash: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Keep warm.
2. Bread the Steak:

Prepare the Coating: In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
Coat the Steak: Dip each cube steak first in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour, pressing to adhere.
3. Fry the Steak:

Heat Oil: In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
Cook Steak: Carefully add the breaded steaks to the hot oil, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
4. Make the Gravy:

Use the Drippings: In the same skillet, remove excess oil, leaving about 2 tablespoons and the browned bits. Add reserved flour (from the breading) to the drippings and whisk to create a roux.
Add Milk: Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Serve:

Plate the creamy mashed potatoes alongside the chicken fried steak, and generously drizzle the gravy over the top.
