Cowboy Steak and Potato Casserole

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  • Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).

  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish generously with about an inch of oil.

Step 2: Mix the Meat

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper.

  • Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 3: Shape and Arrange

  • Place the meat mixture in the baking dish, shaping it into a loaf in the center.

  • Arrange the frozen, finely chopped potatoes around the meat loaf. Sprinkle with plenty of salt.

Step 4: Bake Covered

  • Cover the baking dish with foil.

  • Bake for 45 minutes.

Step 5: Add Cheese and Finish Baking

  • Remove foil and sprinkle grated cheddar cheese evenly over the meat and potatoes.

  • Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the meat is nicely browned.

Step 6: Serve

  • Optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
